Meet Delphine Vesselle:

Delphine Vesselle comes from a centuries-deep vine growing family in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, in the Montagne de Reims. She started making wine on her own at the family estate in 1994, when she was just 22 years old, fresh out of winemaking school and thrust quickly into the limelight with the illness of her father, Jean Vesselle (who passed away in 1996). One of the highly talented female winemakers in the Montagne de Reims, Delphine has always been a creative force in Bouzy, introducing a "real" rosé Champagne made from 100% Pinot Noir, her Rosé de Saignée, to her portfolio early on (rosé Champagne is usually a blend of still red wine and white sparkling wine, while the saignée is made by bleeding the red grapes for color).

Old-vine Pinot Noir is indeed the backbone of Bouzy Champagne, and to better capture the power and intensity of this red grape in her blends, Delphine has also pushed for more environmentally friendly growing methods -- eliminating any additives and chemicals in the vineyards (not an easy thing to do in this cooler, climate-challenged northern region). As of the 2025 harvest, the estate will be certified organic. Her husband, David Lemaire, is her agronomist; while her four children -- Lucas, Eléa, Tao et Eloïs -- are avidly following in the footsteps of their inspirational winemaking mom!
